A Major Award

It all started on February 18 when we found a giant box on our front porch. It turns out that John won a Brewer's Best beer brewing equipment kit in a Facebook contest. Yes, it would seem that people really win those contents. With our newly acquired kit, we were about to embark on an adventure in homebrewing.

It's a major award!

Our kit included:
  • 6.5 gallon fermenting bucket with a lid
  • 6.5 gallon bottling bucket with a spigot
  • 5 gallon plastic better bottle (plastic carboy)
  • Better bottle fermentation bung (to seal the carboy)
  • 5 gallon brew pot
  • Joy of Homebrewing book by Charlie Papazian
  • Airlock
  • Tubing
  • Autosiphon
  • Bottle filler (spring tipped)
  • Bottle brush
  • Carboy brush
  • Bottle capper
  • Bottle caps
  • Baster (for sampling)
  • Thermometer
  • Hydrometer
  • Hydrometer test jar
  • Easy clean sanitizer
The hydrometer and hydrometer test jar were broken in shipping, but we received replacements after just one quick email to the company. Now we just need the ingredients! We visited American Brewmaster, a great, local supply shop. They were very patient and answered all of our newbie questions. We picked one of the kits they created in the shop. The ingredients are fresh, and the instructions are clear and easy to follow. First up: English Pale Ale....
